Boston Big Game Party
Join Stanford AND Cal alumni at the annual Boston Big Game party.
This year, the event will be held at the Good Time Emporium located at
30 Sturtevant Street in Somerville.
Admission is $10 for SCNE members and $15 for non-SCNE members. You may
join or renew your membership at the door ($15 annual dues) and pay the
discounted admission ($10) for a total of $25. Pizza, pasta, potato skins,
chicken wings, salad, and nachos are included in admission price. You
will also receive $3 worth of tokens to play laser tag, video games, pool,
etc.

The Head of the Charles
Fall is here and once again itâs the time of year when crew teams from
around the country arrive in Boston for the Head of the Charles. This
year the Stanford Varsity Women's Team will be competing in this renowned
event Sunday, October 21. Please join us at the Stanford Alumni Club Table
where alumni, friends, and families of the rowers can gather to watch
the races and cheer on the Stanford team.
The Stanford Table will be located on the east side of the Riverside
Boathouse at 769 Memorial Drive in Cambridge (across from Strawberries
Music and Trader Joes), from 11 AM to 4 PM. If you are interested in helping
with the table, please contact Anna
McVittie.
The Stanford team is rowing in the Championship Eights, which begins
at approximately 3:54 PM, but get there early to meet the team in person.
In case you are elsewhere on the course during the race, the bow number
on the boat will be #37.

Breakfast with John Bravman
Please join Professor John Bravman for breakfast Thursday, October
25 from 7:30-9:00 AM at the MIT
Faculty Club. Bravman is the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education
as well as a materials science professor and a gifted speaker.
Bravman will be leading a discussion about "Cool
Stuff: Engineering Materials for the 21st Century": Can you
make diamonds from peanut butter? Will silicon always be the integrated
circuit material of choice? Will we process information with light rather
than electricity? Explore the answers to the questions, and learn about
recent breakthroughs in the science and technology of materials.
SCNE members, alumni nonmembers, and friends are welcome to attend. Breakfast
begins at 7:30 AM and remarks and Q&A are scheduled from 8:00-9:00.

a banner has been made to mark our territory. We should also have pool
tables reserved at the Big City for a possible PAC-10 Billiards Tournament.

All Ivy Happy Hour
Cornell University invites alumni and friends from the Ivy League, Duke,
John Hopkins, MIT and Stanford for the 5th Annual All-Ivy Happy Hour at
Trattoria Il Panino on May 10th starting at 6:00 PM. Last year, nearly
300 young alumni from the Boston area joined us to have a good time and
a spectacular buffet. There is no cover charge for the happy hour, but
please no jeans and no sneakers. Trattoria IL Panino is located at 295

Charles River Earth Day Clean-Up
Welcome in the Spring by making the Charles River a clean, safe place
to have fun! Join over 1,000 other environmentally conscious volunteers
to clean up the Charles River on Saturday, April 21, 2001.
The Stanford Club of New England is teaming with Brown Alumni volunteers
to clean the Hatch Shell area of the river. This area runs from the Longfellow
Bridge to the Harvard Bridge, and is the most highly trafficked spot in
the city. Afterward join Stanford/Brown Alumni and other volunteers at
Artesani Park for free food, drinks and entertainment.

Stanford's Everyday People is Coming to Town
Enjoy some hip hop or a little rhythm and blues on Friday, March 30th
beginning at 7:45 PM with Stanford's A Capella group Everyday People.
Everyday People will perform with The Bostonians, a Boston College A Capella
group, at Boston College, McElroy Cafe, McElroy Building, on the corner
of Beacon and College Streets on the Chestnut Hill campus. Admission is
free. Parking is available next to the football stadium on Beacon Street,
or there is garage parking available next to the Silvio Conte Arena. In
the garage, get off the 7th floor and walk towards McElroy. For more information

Mardi Gras at the Big Easy
The Boston College Young Alumni Club is hosting a Mardi Gras Party at
the Big Easy in Boston on Thursday, February 22. Fifteen different college
alumni groups are expected to attend. Live music provided by Bob's Day
Off. There will be door prizes, Mardi Gras beads, and open bar for the
first hour! The cost is $15 per person. Note: At the door, please indicate
that you are with the Brown group (sounds weird, but BC asked us to consolidate
our attendance with Brown for accounting purposes). Please contact Alex

Stanford at California in Mens Basketball
The #2 Stanford Cardinal take on the weenies in another Bay Area
grudge match this Saturday, February 17, at 6 PM EST.
The Golden Bears are likely going to the NCAA Tournament this year and
are looking to make a statement by beating the Card. Two weeks ago, Cal
beat UCLA by 29 points, and UCLA coach Steve Lavin called Haas Pavilion
the loudest and most intimidating arena in which he had coached. This
was the same UCLA team that handed Stanford its only loss two days later.
Join New England area alums to watch the game at the Crimson
Sports Bar and Grill in Harvard Square, located on JFK Street south
of the Red Line Harvard Square T stop in Cambridge. The ABC Regional telecast
is not available on the East coast except for satellite coverage.
