Walk Now for Autism: The Cardinal Cares
Saturday, Nov 8, National Mall

1 in 150 children born this year will be diagnosed with autism. Join the "Cardinal Cares" team at the annual Walk Now for Autism, Saturday, November 8th on the National Mall, sponsored by Autism Speaks. Each member of our Stanford team will be asked to raise a nominal sum ($50) towards the Walk's fundraising goals. If you're ambitious, you can help organize a Stanford happy hour at a local bar, with proceeds to benefit the Walk.

Ivy Singles Event

Join the hosts, the Dartmouth Club and Cornell Club of Washington, for the Harvest Season Soiree at the City Tavern Club in Georgetown.

City Tavern Club is the second oldest building in the District of Columbia. It was built in 1796 when Georgetown was well established from colonial times and the City of Washington merely comprised a vast construction site.

Advance payment registration is $30. Registration by email, phone, or at the door is $35. To register and pay in advance, note your school on the check, make your check payable to “The Dartmouth Club of Washington DC”, and mail it to Dan Crowley, 1440 N St NW #202, Washington DC 20005. Advance registration checks must be received by Saturday, November 8. To minimize check in lines, please RSVP with your name and school to DanielFCrowley@Compuserve.com, or by phone to 202 234-6676.

Stanford Book Club Meeting

The December book is Another Life and The House on the Embankment by Yuri Trifonov. Stanford vs. Cal Big Game Viewing Party

It's time to put on your Cardinal red and cheer on the Stanford football team in the 111th Big Game. Come watch Stanford's team spoil Cal's season. The Washington, DC Stanford Association is organizing another fun event with the DC area Berkeley Alumni Association, so come out and support the Cardinal!

Bar Louie is 1 block from the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro (Red, Yellow, and Green lines) and 4 blocks from the Metro Center Metro (Red, Blue, and Orange lines).

Price by November 16: $12 for WDCSA members, young alumni, ('04 - '08) and their guests; $15 for non-WDCSA members and their guests; $8 for kids 12 and under.

Price at the door (cash and check only): $15 for WDCSA members, young alums ('04 to '08), and their guests; $20 for non-WDCSA members and their guests; $10 for kids 12 and under.

Price includes appetizers, drink specials ($3 any draft beer, $6 house wine, complimentary soda and tea), and exclusive viewing of the Big Game.

Ivy Singles Holiday Party

The Washington DC Stanford Club invites you to an Ivy Singles Social Club holiday party. The venue is the elegant, historic DACOR- Bacon House (built 1824-25), home to several Supreme Court Justices as well as a Maryland governor. The DACOR-Bacon House will be decorated for the holiday season. In keeping with the holiday spirit of goodwill, we hope you will bring an inexpensive gift to put under the tree for Toys for Tots.

We will feast on scrumptious hors d'oeuvres and enjoy live music. Libations will be available from a cash bar. Wear your festive party apparel.

Inaugural WDCSA 2008-2009 Writers Series: Christopher Sorrentino

The fiction writer Christopher Sorrentino, author of four books, will present his work at Stanford in Washington. This "literary performance" will inaugurate the WDCSA 2008-2009 Writers' Series.

Sorrentino's second novel, TRANCE (2005), "treats" the Patty Hearst saga and was nominated for a National Book Award. He is the son of Gilbert Sorrentino, a legendary professor in Stanford's Creative Writing Program from 1982-1999. He resided on campus during part of his father's tenure at Stanford and is amply familiar with the campus.

Admission will cost $15 for WDCSA members, and $20 non-members. Checks made out to WDCSA should be sent to Dr. Barry S. WDCSA Holiday Community Service Project

Been hankering for a volunteer opportunity? Now's your chance! WDCSA will be volunteering at the Capital Area Food Bank, which is a 10-minute walk from Brookland-CUA metro stop. Come join Stanford alums in sorting and preparing food for distribution to local families and programs. Last year, the Capital Area Food Bank distributed over 20 million pounds of food and fresh produce in the Washington Metro Area. It'll be a great way to meet fellow alums, and to get on Santa's good side!
