Baltimore Book Club Discussion

The January selection is The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown. This book is the 2013-2014 New York Times Best Seller in nonfiction, the 2014 American Booksellers Association’s adult nonfiction Book of the Year, the 2014 American Library Association’s Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in nonfiction recipient, and rated 4.7 out of 5 stars by over 15,000 Amazon readers.

The March selection is Inferno by Dan Brown.

Renwick Gallery Tour

Enjoy a docent led tour of the newly renovated Renwick Gallery, which is home to the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s collection of contemporary craft and decorative art. The debut exhibition, WONDER, features large-scale artwork created from unexpected materials, turning the building into a larger-than-life work of art. Renwick is a short walk from the Farragut West Metro Station. R.S.V.P. is required for the tour. We will socialize afterwards at the Potbelly Sandwich Shop across the street. Purchase of food is optional.

Wreaths Across America Clean-up

The Harvard Club of Washington DC invites Stanford alumni to join the Ivy schools plus the Seven Sisters for one of its most popular events. Celebrating its 21st year, the Winter Indoor Mixed Doubles Tennis Party is an enjoyable way to socialize, meet potential partners, and network with alumni members and their guests.

Admission for players with advance registration is $25. Door admission for players is $30 and is payable by cash or check, no credit card. Admission is $10 for non-players. Stanford In the News

Two members of the Stanford faculty, Albert Bandura, professor emeritus of psychology, and Stanley Falkow, professor emeritus of microbiology and immunology, have been awarded the 2015 National Medal of Science. Bandura is the David Starr Jordan Professor, Emeritus, in the School of Humanities and Sciences, and Falkow is the Robert W. and Vivian K. Cahill Professor in Cancer Research, Emeritus, in the School of Medicine. They will receive their medals at a White House ceremony in January.
